If you're sick of the snow and considering moving to Florida, I can promise you it's the right decision. When I first considered moving down south, I had my reservations. I wasn't sure whether or not the snow bird life was right for me and my family. But, after much careful consideration, I knew it was time.
Now, a few years later, I know I've made the right choice. Here's five things I definitely didn't miss once I moved to Florida.
1. Wind chills that could kill
If you're a Northerner, you know that the wind chill itself can easily get it to the negative double digits on a cold January day. Not only was this a complete hassle, but it was dangerous for myself and my family. I couldn't let me son play outside, knowing full well he could freeze to death.
2. Packing on the pounds
In Florida, at least for me, there's no such thing as winter weight. The sun is shining, the air is warm, and I can head out for a run practically any time of the day. There's no excuse to not be fit, and the last thing you want to do in Florida is sit inside acting like a couch potato.
3. Scraping ice off my car
This used to be the worst. I remember having to warm up my car at least 30 minutes before I left the house, just so I could make sure my windshield was defrosted.
4. Grumpy people
No one likes being cold, or having to wear 5 layers just to set foot outside. Once I moved to Florida, I realized everyone down here was more friendly and accommodating, simply because they don't have to face the irritation of winter.
5. Throwing my back out shoveling
When it snowed in December, I remember thinking - "I'll go outside and shovel, what a great workout!". By the time February rolled around, I was less than thrilled.
